After almost 4 weeks, we finally got the queen with all of her minions. We’ll have a few stragglers that were out foraging that we’ll pick up later.

So the new bee vac worked really well.
April 15, 2021: New Bee Vac
Just finished building a smaller bee vacuum for our smaller sized bee rescues. I would like to thank “Dennis the Bee Guy” for the cage idea inside a 7 gallon bucket. Home Depot had the Bucket Head” and Homer Bucket which I modified so that the Bucket Head would fit on top. Also using a control valve to reduce suction so bees aren’t plastered to the other side of the screen. We have named it “R2B2”.

After over three weeks with this trap out, the queen is on the move and bees are heading into the box.
April 9, 2021: Queen Bee
When rescuing bees it’s imperative that we get the queen. We have often been asked what the queen looks like. She is larger than a normal bee and has a “fat bottom”. You can see that in the middle of the pic. And it is true: “Fat bottomed girls you make the rocking world go round”. Come on, I know you sang it.
