We’re trying out a new technique for our roofs and bottom boards. It’s called Shou Sugi Ban. We burn the wood to help preserve. We also use tung oil on them when finished. The last pic show a contrast between our normal hive and the shou sugi ban hive. Special thanks to Hanna for the idea. Let us know what you think.
April 27, 2021: Stepping up a MiniNuc
A quick step up from a two frame mini-nuc to a 5 frame nuc. We start a mini-nuc with one frame of bees with eggs, brood and larvae. They will realize there is no queen and will make a new queen. It usually takes about 30 days for this to happen.
April 27, 2021: Bee Rescue at Mystic Cove Complete
Final trap out of six total in a month is complete. The bees are getting acquainted with Jilllibees Apiary.
April 22, 2021: Bee Rescue in a Tree in Belle Isle
Trap out was not progressing. So we went ahead and used R2B2 (bee vac) along with smoke to smoke them out and vacuum them up. They are now in Jillibees Apiary.
April 19,2021: Bee Rescue from Vista Lakes Moved to Hive
The trap out we brought back two days ago from Vista Lakes was so big, we had to place it in a normal hive.
