We Build Superior Western Red Cedar Beehives

We custom build our western red cedar beehives. Western red cedar resists moisture, decay and insect damage. Additionally, with it’s natural durability, dimensional stability and exceptional beauty make it ideal for bee hives. We leave the inside hive walls rough cut intentionally. We do not add tung oil to the inside of the hive to encourage the bees to add propolis. The propolis adds additional protection for the hives, seals out odors, and creates an anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial interior.

Purchasing Western Red Cedar Beehives Online

The majority of hives I have purchased in the past had to be assembled and all required finishing. I purchased hives years ago that either came from China, cheaply made or both. They also had to be assembled and required finishing. I knew I could do much better than what I was getting. As a veteran, I build hives with pride and all made in America.

Realization that I could build better beehives

Realizing that I could make them better than what I was getting, I decided to build my own. using jigs, templates and spreadsheets that I created helped to build all component parts of the hive in a consistent manner. I use only 1X12x12 Western Red Cedar boards so it is not necessary to glue boards together to make the broods and supers. In using twelve foot board, it makes the best use of the wood with the least amount of “waste”. We custom build every hive for each customer.

western red cedar bee hives vs regular hive

There is a huge difference between a normal bee hive and the one I build.

We build these hives to provide an accent to your property. Additionally, They provide beauty for your back yard and functionality for bees.

We use using a combination of 150 and 220 grit sandpaper when sanding the hive components. Once sanding is completed, the hive components are hand rubbed with three coats of Hope’s Tung Oil allowing a 24 hour dry time between coats. When you receive our hive, it will be ready to add frames and bees.
